Join the Nationwide Moonlight Rally!

The fight for Moonlight continues, and this week we have an exciting new campaign activity planned: Moonlighters across the nation are organizing rallies in support of Moonlight including a large rally in New York City’s Central Park on June 14. If you’re interested in joining a rally or planning one in your vicinity, please visit the Moonlightline forum for information.

We’re also pleased to bring you some encouraging words from those we’re fighting for. First, one of our sources on the show (who has asked to remain anonymous) says, “tell everyone to keep up the good work.” And our own Sophia Myles emailed to express her gratitude for everything the fans are doing and let us know that the fans are what have “kept her going” during all of this.

Operation: Renew Moonlight News Update

Just posted on Moonlight United: Although it’s been relatively quiet the past couple of days, we thought it would be helpful to have another “round up” of campaign news for Moonlighters to help keep everything straight.

And, just to be clear, by posting suggestions about “what we should be doing,” it’s not an order, telling people you can only do these things, but rather a call to arms as we want to encourage everyone in the Moonlight community to work together for the good of the show. Ideas and suggestions are always welcome. And, while those of us at MLU working to coordinate the campaign efforts might state that we aren’t going to do a certain thing right now, that doesn’t mean that it won’t be considered at a later time. We simply need to stay focused and work en masse to renew Moonlight. Read under the cut for the latest roundup.

Grassroots Effort Aimed at DirecTV – Our latest campaign endeavor is reaching out to DirecTV (the satellite company) in the hopes they will consider partnering with the Sci-Fi Channel to finance the pick-up of Moonlight. Fans Subsidizing the Future of Moonlight – There has been a lot of talk all over the Moonlight community about fans grouping together to raise the remaining funds for the future production of Moonlight. While this is a wonderful thought in theory, for many reasons it would not be likely to happen. There are too many legal nightmares and hurdles – not to mention legal precedents that would be set – by this sort of endeavor. To state it plainly, this is not an avenue the fans should consider at any point in time no matter how well meaning it may be. We have a legal consultant who has advised us this is not a good idea for any fandom.
Sci-Fi Channel Snail Mail Campaign – Despite the recent statement by Michael Ausiello at TVGuide.com that the Sci-Fi Channel has, in his words, “passed on picking up new episodes, but there’s still a chance it could air existing episodes”, our sources have NOT confirmed his statements. Please don’t address your letters to Bonnie Hammer. She stepped down as President of SciFi back in January. David Howe is now President.

NOTE: Please remember to watch the postage used on the postcards. If you live in the United Stated, it will cost you .042 cents to mail them, as they are actually considered letters, due to their size, by the US Post Office. If you decide to send your own home-made postcards, please make sure to NOT include any screen captures from the episodes or publicity stills of the cast as their characters. We do not have permission from CBS or the WB to use these pictures and by using them we will be infringing on their copyright of the images.

International (and US) fans are encouraged to continue sending their comments to Heidi for inclusion in packages of postcards. More information is here.

The CW - We have been informed that the CW has officially passed on picking up Moonlight, so it is time to halt our endeavors in their direction. Instead, we encourage Moonlighters to concentrate the Sci-Fi Channel and DirecTV, as noted above.
Campaign Fatigue/Length of Campaign – Many folks have expressed concerns since we started the campaign on May 13, when the fateful announcement was leaked out that CBS had canceled Moonlight, about campaign fatigue and wondering about the length of this campaign. While we obviously can’t put an end date on this campaign, we want you to know that your efforts are appreciated and are being noticed “out there”. We know that “battle fatigue” is starting to set in and we want to encourage everyone to hang in there. The key to a successful campaign is to PACE yourselves. Do only what you are able to do; don’t drive yourself to the point of exhaustion. Set a goal for what you know you can conceivably do in a week’s time - allow for rest, relaxation, time for work and your family - as well as yourself. Set a calendar for yourself of what you will complete on specific days when you know you aren’t as busy with real life responsibilities. Don’t attempt to do EVERYTHING. Choose if you will do only postcards, only emails or only phone calls. Or, do a small combination of all three or a variation over the course of a week (as campaign initiatives will be updated weekly). It is all about what you feel comfortable doing and what you have time to complete. So, the key words are: Pace yourselves and be prepared for the long haul.
Words of Encouragement from TPTB at Moonlight Central – Folks were asking in the first week or two of the campaign about receiving word from Joel Silver’s office or the creative team behind Moonlight, wanting words of encouragement for our efforts. The following are words of support we’ve received over the past couple of weeks:From Leeser’s show contacts: “They are grateful for our support and haven’t said to quit.”
The first reaction from Joel Silver’s office when told about our efforts was, “Wow.”
The response from our WB contacts was, “You’re fighting the good fight”.
General News and Tidbits – As of Monday, May 26, the sets at Warner Bros. were being torn down; however, we did learn that both Mick’s and Beth’s apartments will be archived, meaning they will be put into storage. The soundstages where all the Moonlight sets were housed were needed for other productions.
Attendees at last weekend’s MoonlightCon raised about $6500 through the Charity Auction held during the festivities. That money wast used to buy 3393 pounds of food which was then delivered (via UHaul truck) to the Los Angeles Food Bank. They were stunned, shocked, awed and just speechless. Read more here.

Lastly, please note that all the other networks (FX, USA, TNT) haven’t said no. They just aren’t in actual negotiations with WB and Silver Pictures! You can continue to send letters, postcards or emails/feedback to them if you’d like.

MICK AND BETH MUST FACE THE REALITIES OF A MORTAL/IMMORTAL RELATIONSHIP WHEN A VAMPIRE KILLS A HUMAN DURING A MOMENT OF PASSION, ON THE FIRST SEASON FINALE OF “MOONLIGHT,” FRIDAY, MAY 16

As we finish the first season of Moonlight, the season finale reveals the depth and variety of the vampire world around Los Angeles, introducing a wealth of new characters, including lawyers, stock brokers, college students…

Mick and Beth investigate the death of Domonic, an up-and-coming Basketball Player with ties to Emma Monaghan and several other vampires, although he was unaware that he was working and living among the undead.

Simone Walker, a gorgeous lawyer, visits Beth to talk about the men in their lives: the discussion centers around Simone being Josef's Freshie and How she thinks its intimate but Vampires don't feel that way about Humans.

Beth meets with Emma Monaghan, a vampire stock broker who is married to Jackson, a man she fell in love with and turned so they could be together. After 150 years, they are still together and in love, giving Beth some food for thought. Emma is involved in a mess After Killing Domonic and is Going to Jail and Threatens mick if he doesn't Have her out in 24hours she will give the names of every Vampire in LA. So Now Vampire justice must be carried out.

Mick becomes head of security for Tierney Taylor, a famous actress who thinks her Manager or someone close to her is leaking info to the Papparazi. While at a press release party Mick is with Beth and Heres Tierney yelling who just had a Fight with her Boy Friend Scott.

Later on that Night they Find Tierney dead in the Water so Mick and Beth

Buzzwire has a new boss, Grant Lewis. Lewis tells his new staff that he wants scoop, whether it’s true not.

Meanwhile, someone else seems to be very interested in Mick, knowing that something is “different” about him and that he knows what it is.

When Beth's boss, Maureen, is killed after telling Beth she had a hot story to pursue, a new ADA named Benjamin Talbot investigates the murder. Naturally Beth and Mick launch their own investigation, which Talbot warns could taint any evidence and let Maureen's killer walk free.

The investigation leads them to Bonnie, the 15-year-old daughter of a politician, Kent Morrow, who is hiding a painful secret for her father who is about to be elected Mayor. The secret is eating her up inside and she attempts suicide, but Mick lends an understanding ear...and some very human reflexes.
